Seven Mile Securities has designed and launched a successful paid internship program – which began in July 2021, with the first participant, former John Gray High School Graduate, Andres McDermott.

The structured internship program provides a supportive educational pathway and training framework, where interns work directly with senior members of the Seven Mile Securities team.

“I started in the second week of July 2021. Initially, I shadowed one on the experienced Client Relationship Officers – learning about the client onboarding process including the KYC, AMLR and regulatory compliance process. I’m learning a lot – there’s a very comprehensive client onboarding process to make sure that Seven Mile Securities complies with regulation.” Said Andres

“I also was helping with trade monitoring. This is where we review all the trades for the last quarter, and we look at these to ensure there is nothing abnormal or unusual – we look at volume and price changes in certain stocks.”

Andres graduated from John Gray High School in 2014/15. Then progressed through his A-levels at Cayman Prep – which he completed in 2017. He then attended Plymouth University to begin a degree in Marine Technology.

“This degree covers marine engineering and naval architecture, but I’m still thinking about what I want to do in the future, I’m leaning towards naval architecture – but I’ve always been interested in stock markets and finance, and this will definitely be a part of my future in some way.

“This has been a valuable learning experience and I’m very happy to have had this opportunity.” Said Andres.

Seven Mile Securities Director, Sabrina Sheridan said: “The company, which started in 2011 – has grown quite rapidly over the last two years.

“We have always been very keen to create opportunities for young, bright Caymanians and we are delighted with Andres’ success which has resulted from this program, and his determination to make it work.”
